Antje Schupp ist Regisseurin, Performerin und Autorin. Sie studierte Regie für Theater und Oper an der Bayrischen Theaterakademie August Everding sowie Theater-, Film- und Medienwissenschaft und Cultural Studies an der Universität Wien. Sie inszeniert Sprech- und Musiktheater, entwickelt eigene Produktionen in der freien Szene, arbeitet häufig in ko-kreativen Arbeitsprozessen sowie mit nicht-professionellen Darsteller*innen und gerne site-specific. Sie schreibt Texte, Stücke und hat in Zusammenarbeit mit Silvio Meessen (Tristesse) ihren ersten Dokumentarfilm gedreht: mit Music was my first love

Antje Schupp hat umfassende Erfahrung mit unterschiedlichen Arbeitsmethoden in der Stückentwicklung, die sich aus Techniken im Bereich Performance und Tanz, Musiktheater sowie Textarbeit zusammen setzen. Sie arbeitet häufig über einen biographischen Zugang in der künstlerischen Entwicklung sowie mit ko-kreativen Arbeitsmethoden. Antje Schupp interessiert sich für zeitpolitische, ökologische und soziale Themen und verbindet in ihren Arbeiten unterschiedliche stilistische Elemente zu vielschichtigen, teils dokumentarischen, teils fiktiven Erzählungen. Vielseitigkeit, Experimentierfreude, Ko-Kreation und Interaktion stehen im Zentrum ihrer Arbeit.

Inszenierungen u. a. am Theater Basel, Schauspielhaus Zürich, Theater am Neumarkt, Kaserne Basel, Konzert Theater Bern oder Staatstheater Augsburg. Einladungen zu Festivals wie Theaterspektakel Zürich, Politik im Freien Theater, Berliner Theatertreffen „Shifting Perspectives", Antigel Genf oder Heidelberger Stückemarkt. Antje Schupp arbeitet regelmässig in internationalen Kollaborationen, z.B. in Südafrika bei PINK MON€Y, zuletzt bei Nouvelle Nahda (Theater am Neumarkt / Station Beirut) mit Künstler*innen aus/in Beirut, in 2021 mit Künstler*innen in Teresina (BRA). Viele Zusammenarbeiten mit Beatrice Fleischlin, z.B. bei Islam für Christen – Ein Crashkurs (Level A1).

Operninszenierungen von Mozart, Massenet, Vivaldi und Menotti sowie verschiedene Uraufführungen im Musiktheater, zuletzt die Europäische Erstaufführung von "Angel's Bone" (Du Yun & Royce Vavrek), das den Pulitzer Preis erhielt.

Antje Schupp ist Trägerin des Festspielpreises der Festspiele Zürich 2020 - damit verbunden die spartenübergreifende Uraufführung des Filmischen Essays REVUE 2020 in Koproduktion mit Opernhaus Zürich und Schauspielhaus Zürich - und ist Teil der Swiss Performing Arts Selection der Schweizer Kulturstiftung Pro Helvetia. 2021 erhält sie den Jakob-Michael-Reinhold-Lenz-Preis für Dramatik der Stadt Jena sowie der Schweizer Theaterpreis vom Bundesamt für Kultur.

Antje Schupp is a director, performer and author. She studied directing for theatre and opera at the Bavarian Theatre Academy August Everding as well as theatre, film and media studies and cultural studies at the University of Vienna. She directs theatre and musical theatre, creates own productions in the independent performing arts scene, often works in co-creative working processes and with non-professional performers and likes to create site-specific projects. She writes texts and plays and has created her first documentary film, Music was my first love in collaboration with Silvio Meessen (Tristesse) for Wildwuchs Festival Basel.

Antje Schupp has extensive experience with different working methods in play development, which consist of techniques in the field of performance and dance, music theatre as well as text based work. She often works through a biographical approach in artistic development as well as with co-creative working methods. Antje Schupp is interested in contemporary political, ecological and social issues and combines different stylistic elements in her works to create multi-layered, partly documentary, partly fictional narratives. Versatility, experimentation, co-creation and interaction are at the centre of her work.

Productions at the Theater Basel, Schauspielhaus Zürich, Theater am Neumarkt, Kaserne Basel, Konzert Theater Bern or Staatstheater Augsburg, among others. Invitations to festivals such as Theaterspektakel Zurich, Politik im Freien Theater, Berlin Theatertreffen "Shifting Perspectives", Antigel Geneva or Heidelberger Stückemarkt. Antje Schupp regularly works in international collaborations, e.g. in South Africa with PINK MON€Y, most recently with Nouvelle Nahda (Theater am Neumarkt / Station Beirut) with artists from/in Beirut, in 2021 with artists in Teresina (BRA). Many collaborations with Beatrice Fleischlin, e.g. Islam for Christians - A Crash Course (Level A1).

Antje Schupp is the winner of the Festspielpreis of the Zurich Festival 2020 - associated with the cross-disciplinary premiere of the filmic essay REVUE 2020 in co-production with Zurich Opera House and Zurich Schauspielhaus - and is part of the Swiss Performing Arts Selection of the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia. In 2021 she receives the Jakob-Michael-Reinhold-Lenz-Prize for Dramatic Arts of the City of Jena as well as the Swiss Performing Arts Award of the Federal Office of Culture in Switzerland.
